QEC inventory checklist: how to run one on a CFM56-7B

A QEC inventory on a CFM56-7B takes a few hours if it is planned and a day if it is not. The difference is the baseline and the order of the walk.

Before

  • The baseline: the delivery or return specification's QEC list, by part number, or the lease's definition of the kit.
  • The current records: the accessory list the operator holds, with serial numbers and release tags.
  • Access: cowls open, engine made safe, lighting and a mirror for the data plates that face the wrong way.
  • The method: a sheet with one row per baseline item, and a phone that files each photo in the right row.

The walk

Work the engine in a fixed order so nothing is skipped: mounts and build-up hardware; the accessory gearbox and its accessories — generator, hydraulic pump, starter, fuel and oil units; bleed ducts and valves; fuel, oil and hydraulic lines; harnesses and sensors; fire detection; brackets, clamps and heat shields. For each item: part number and serial number off the data plate, a photograph, a condition note, and whether a release tag is on file.

After

Compare the walk with the baseline and with the records. Report every item that is missing, substituted, an unapproved alternative, untagged or damaged, with the photograph beside it. Hand the list to both parties before the engine moves.

Where the voice match helps

Reading a part number off a plate inside a cowl and typing it into the right row is where errors come from. InspectView's phone app takes the part number by voice, matches it to the kit list and files the photo with it.

FAQ

What is the baseline if the lease does not define the QEC?
The delivery records and the manufacturer's QEC configuration for the aircraft type; agree it in writing before the walk.
Do I need the release tags for every accessory?
For a transaction, yes; an untagged accessory is a records gap with a cost.
How long does it take?
A few hours on an installed -7B with a clear baseline; longer if the baseline must be reconstructed.
