PW1100G borescope inspection: hot section challenges
The Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM powers the A320neo family alongside the LEAP-1A. Its geared fan and high-pressure core have made it one of the most inspected engines in service, and its hot section is where inspectors spend their time.

Why the hot section
The geared turbofan's efficiency comes from a core that runs hot and fast. Hot section hardware — combustor, high-pressure turbine nozzles and blades — therefore carries most of the inspection load, and industry reporting on the fleet's durability has kept borescope inspections frequent. Limits and intervals are PW1100G-specific and change with manufacturer guidance.
What the inspection covers
Fan and low-pressure compressor; the high-pressure compressor stage by stage; the combustor; the high-pressure turbine; the low-pressure turbine — each through the PW1100G ports with the core rotated so every blade is seen, recorded on video, findings sized against the AMM.
For lessors and buyers
The PW1100G trades with close attention to shop visit history, manufacturer programs and the current guidance on inspection intervals. A records audit matters as much as the borescope, and the two belong in one report.
FAQ
- Is the PW1100G harder to inspect than the LEAP?
- Different, not harder; the port map, limits and guidance are its own.
- How often does a PW1100G need a borescope?
- As the manufacturer's program and the operator's approved maintenance program require; that guidance has changed over the fleet's life, so check the current revision.
- Do you cover the PW1100G?
- Tell us the engine and airport and we confirm capability before you book.
